Group Project - hedvig commercial
This video is the first video assignment I turned in at school when it comes to video editing. It's the result of a group effort where me and 3 other classmates were given a free choice of a company that we wanted to film and edit a commercial for. We went for the insurance company called Hedvig.
We started out with planning 3 days of shooting using the schools equipment, so that as much as possible would be prepared and accounted for before we actually started filming. We managed to prepare for most things, but we still got caught by surprise about a few things, especially the lighting and how hard and time consuming it can be! Although considering that we were new to all things filming with proper equipment I think we did alright with the planning! :)
We ended up shooting over a couple of days, in the end we needed one more occasion than we had planned for. After the filming was done we had a lot of material to work with and the assignment had us all use whatever we had filmed and cut and edit our own versions of the commercial.
Even though we had agreed on a certain feel and look of what we wanted and we all worked from a synopsis we had developed as a group, the final version of all four group members video did vary quite a bit in its execution. But that was one of the fun parts, we could all see our own different editing styles and choices in narrative design which was interesting! The fact that everything was already filmed before any of us were allowed to start cutting and editing made a huge impact as well, since we couldn't go back and film more things if we felt that our material was missing something in particular. So the planning ahead of all the shots and scenes was very important but I think that in the end we all wanted additional material for our edits but we had to work with what we had!
In the end we all wanted to go for more of a grounded look and feel, as if it was just snatched up from a normal persons everyday life and things that could happen to you, the viewer. We figured as none of  us are actors it would be hard to make scenes feel professional without it being a bit silly from poor acting :) so going for more of a natural feel felt like the best way forward for us as a group.
Looking back at this video after it was done makes me see a lot of things I would do differently or put more time into(or less). Cutting and editing the video really made me aware of how easy it is to get lost in certain small things along the way and spending way too much time on them. So one of the biggest takeaways was definitely the importance of planning and distributing time in an effective manner. But this is all part of the process, you only learn or pickup on different things from trying things out and getting experience.
But all in all for being my first video production I do believe I could have done worse, even though in hindsight I see a lot of things that would have been done different with a newer project.
